Join Us for a Sweet Retreat | Come Swarm to the Hive

River Forest Group Campsite, Deland, Florida | April 21st - 24th

What to expect

At Honeycomb Connections, our aim is simple: to create a space where women can unite, forge meaningful connections, and bask in the wonders of nature. Whether you’re a seasoned camper or a novice explorer, this meetup promises an unforgettable experience filled with camaraderie and discovery.

Enrich Your meetup experience

We’re about bringing like-minded women together and creating a warm and welcoming environment where they can connect with other 🐝. We hope our 🐝 enjoy their time at our meetups, whether engaging in group activities, chatting with others by the campfire, walking their dog along the floodplain forests and pine flatwoods on the St. Francis Trail, laughing until their sides hurt, dancing, or simply taking time to reflect by the riverside. We hope they find plenty of opportunities to enrich their experience with us.

Safe and Welcoming Environment

At the heart of Honeycomb Connections, we believe that everyone should feel comfortable and supported, no matter who they are or where they come from. We’ve put a lot of thought and effort into creating an inclusive and safe space where you can relax, connect with others, and make lifelong friends. With our lovely Hive Ambassadors and 🐝 support, we’ll ensure everyone feels welcome and happy!

Amenities

The campsite offers potable water, bear proof food containers, picnic tables, a large fire ring, restroom facilities, shower facilities, outside sink and counter for dishwashing, dumpster for garbage, screened  pavilion with many multiple electric plugs for charging equipment, and access to the St. Johns River for recreational activities such as kayaking, canoeing, and fishing.

The Ocala National Forest spans four counties and 383,000 acres. It is the southernmost and oldest national forest east of the Mississippi River, protecting the world’s largest contiguous sand pine scrub forest.

The campground has some shaded areas from large live oaks and a flat, grassy land patch leading to the St. Johns River.

All firewood will be supplied, read Debbie’s Roam Sweet Roam blog that has firewood saftey tips

Please be respectful and keep your food in sealed containers, or use the existing bear proof containers, as bears and raccoons frequent the area.

Can I bring my pet?

Pets are welcome on a leash and are NOT ALLOWED in any buildings, including the pavilion, the bathrooms, and the showers.  Of course, picking up after your pet is an expectation.   All pet rules are by order of the Ocala National Forest.

Activities

  • We are all a flutter as the lovely Jan Privett from Butterfly Tracks will be demonstrating her graceful belly dancing talent. Not only that, but she has also offered to teach a few basics, so if you are feeling like dancing it up with Jan, please bring a triangular scarf or shawl that can be wrapped around your hips. Now, that’s an offer we could not refuse! 🦋
  • Alicia has agreed to discuss her recent Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage with us. The pilgrimage typically takes 35 days and has an average daily distance of 15 miles. Amazing facts will be coming to this hive!! I heard a bit of a buzzzzz that there may be a 2nd guest to add to the conversation. Yes…it’s confirmed…Teresa will add her 2023 hiking experience. We are so blessed to have both these experienced ladies in our midst!
  • Marcia and Maribeth are teaming up to do a sourdough bread class and demonstration. They will also show you how to make it “on the road.” More tricks up your sleeve to enrich your nomadic meals. That will be so yummy and delicious!
  • Doris is going to lead an informal group in basic Tai Chi. So bees can stretch and limber up and enjoy the healthy mindset of an ancient ritual.
  • Jan has agreed to lead an introductory camera photography discussion. She will also be our on-site “Shutter Bug.” – we are looking forward to Jan’s creativity and looking for content creation from those images.
  • Jill is creating a craft project for all who wish to participate. Knowing Jill and her talents – get excited, bees. Expect color, creativity, and lots of fun. Of course, Gypsy – Jill’s loyal traveling basset hound will be there to supervise.
  • Kym (Out On a Limb With Kym) has designed some stickers for us specifically for this meetup – we all love meetup memorabilia don’t we?

Plans also include BINGO with prizes! There is always enjoyment around bees playing bingo and spreading fun – like they spread pollen. Oh, and yes, please, bees, practice the song – B.I.N.G.O. so you can join the resounding bee choir as everyone sings along together before playing!!

There will be a FREE TABLE where bees can gift items that are in good shape and that they no longer need for others to come and receive.

If you have a gift, craft, talent, service, or experience, you want to share with others. Please email Barbara at [email protected]

Joy of Sharing

Do you have a handcrafted item or even an extra new item that you ordered and never returned that you would like to offer to be included in the FREE raffle OR as a BINGO prize? Please let Barbara know.

And more activities are unfolding each day… It’s getting exciting.

$30 per person for the full meetup, that includes your camping, prizes and all activites.
